From the trend that started with bridesmaids wearing dresses that were identical to The Bride’s with veiled faces; for the purpose of confusing jealous suitors and evil spirits…

After-a-time; The Bride preferred to stand out and may not have wanted her bridesmaids to compete, perhaps even going so far as to dictate they had to wear the most terrible dresses or perhaps this was just a sign of the times (think 1980’s wedding fashion).

When planning your wedding and thinking about how great it will be to relive that wonderful day with photography. Wearing fashion that not only makes the couple look amazing and timeless is important; but don’t forget, if your close family and wedding party will also be candid in prominent photographs, creating an overall look is key.

Checking off your "wedding party's attire" from your wedding list can be a huge undertaking. It IS much easier to choose a colour and style to match your design tastes, but while this look can be adorable with flower girls or page boys, it can be less attractive for grown women or men. Think of the scenerio if they met by chance at a gala, would be mortified if they were wearing the same style or outfit that didn't compliment their personal style. I do have lovely memories of my mother matching my two little sisters to my style when I was younger, but as we got older, we all developed our own personal style. I believe a cookie-cutter approach to making the bride stand out is outdated and making your wedding party look like an entourage should be the new sex appeal of weddings today. Everybody is unique in their own way and the essence of their individual personalities will shine through.

If the idea of breaking out from the norm is daunting; hire a stylist, get help from a luxury bridal boutique or custom & bespoke menswear.
